The Musée de Porcelaine Adrien Dubouche exhibits some of the most beautiful ceramics of the Ecole de Tours, the School formed by some of Charles-Jean Avisseau's descendants, alongside its permanent collection.
Avisseau was born in Tours in 1795 and soon started working in one of the ceramic factories in the region of Saint-Pierre des Corps. In 1825, in the Beaumont-les-Autels factory, Avisseau discovered a little Renaissance cup attributed to Bernard Palissy. This discovery changed his life, as he spent the next 15 years searching for the right technique in order to reproduce the same enamel quality in his own factory (opened in 1829).
Avisseau's successors included Edouard and Caroline Avisseau, Landais, Brard, Chauvigné, Busserolles and Carré.
