Carmel's Tor House and Hawk Tower and the surrounding gardens are a national historic landmark and open for tours throughout the year.

The Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation sponsors events and publishes material in order to preserve the cultural and literary legacy of the Californian poet Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962), who built Tor House from 1918-1919 as a home for himself and his family. The following year he began buliding Hawk Tower as a retreat for his wife and sons.

Jeffers wrote all of his major works in Tor House and many literary and cultural celebrities were guests there, including Charles Lindbergh, George Gershwin and Charlie Chaplin. Visitors can enjoy the inspirational and atmospheric house, climb the tower and stroll through the gardens. Tours (for a maximum of six people) are conducted hourly every Friday and Saturday from 10am until 3pm. Unfortunately, for safety reasons, children under 12 years of age are not allowed.
