The annual Buick Invitational Golf Tournament takes place at the spectacular Torrey Pines Golf Course on the Pacific Coast cliffs in La Jolla, San Diego. Each year the event donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to San Diego-based organisations.
The tournament is one of the elite rank of PGA Tour events and each year attracts the top players, like Tiger Woods (who has won the last four titles) and San Diego native Phil Mickelson. No other purse has grown as much over the last 35 years, and it currently stands at more than US$5.2 million, with almost a million dollars for the winner.
Three days of practice, Pro-Am and charity events are followed by the tournament proper.

| Directions: | From Interstate 5 travelling north: exit Genesee Ave and turn left (west), stay on the road as it curves to the right (north) and becomes North Torrey Pines Rd. Look for the large green Golf Course sign on the right after Science Park Way. Turn right at the sign and follow curve under North Torrey Pines – this is Callan Rd. At the stop sign, turn right. From Interstate 5 travelling south: exit Carmel Valley Rd and turn right (west). Turn left on Camino Del Mar, which is at the Pacific Ocean, stay on this road as it passes by Torrey Pines State Beach, Torrey Pines State Preserve and the Torrey Pines Golf Course Driving Range, then turn right into the parking lot. |
