where:Oranjestad

Saint Nicolas is the Dutch version of Santa Claus. Every year on Saint Nicolas Day he makes a grand entrance by boat in Oranjestad's Paardenbaai Harbour to the fanfare of brass bands and excited children at his heels.

Decked out in bishop's robes, Saint Nicolas, Sinterklaas, parades through downtown Oranjestad accompanied by his little helpers (Zwarte Pieten) who dish out spiced cookies and sweets to the children. In the days running up to Saint Nicolas Day, don't be surprised to see horse shoes and treats left out by the little ones for Saint Nicolas' horse...
