The West's highlights are progressive Seattle, flamboyant San Francisco, glittering Los Angeles, frontier oasis Denver and extravagant Las Vegas.
Push a raft along the Mississippi, hike the Appalachians, ski the Rocky Mountains or sail on the Great Lakes. Rustle a herd of cows in Montana, cruise the Great Plains in a Buick, quench your parched throat at the Grand Canyon or simply work on your tan on Daytona Beach.
Flaunt the glittering diamond brooch you splurged on in New York, enjoy the cheese you tasted in Philadelphia, and drink up the pinot noir you discovered in California. Listen to that blues CD you got in Chicago, or wear the cowboy hat you bought in Texas.
You should probably start with a beefburger and fries wherever you are. Get your New England Clam Chowder out east, gumbo soup and jambalaya salad in Louisiana, a big burrito Mexican wrap with jalapeño peppers in the western states, and some sweet pumpkin pie in the Great Plains. In New York you'll need coffee, bagels and donuts to fit in. Win friends by making everyone blueberry pancakes at a campsite, cracking open the lite beers and toasting wieners and marshmallows in the campfire.
